Step into a cabin steeped in old-world mystery — a two-guest retreat with a dark romantic soul, tucked at the end of a private drive deep in the Vermont woods. A carved four-poster bed, gothic chandelier, botanical wallpaper, and antique furnishings create an atmosphere unlike any other Vermont cabin. 22 minutes from Sugarbush, 20 from Mad River Glen, 39 from Stowe. The perfect escape for couples seeking something more than ordinary.

Good to know

Inside this rustic log cabin, every detail has been considered. The living area centers on a tufted leather loveseat beneath a gothic candelabra chandelier, with dark-stained log walls creating a warm, moody contrast against the pine ceiling. Macramé curtains, an antique wooden dresser, ornate ironwork accents, and a vintage trunk used as a coffee table give the space a layered, old-world character. The bedroom is built around a tall carved four-poster bed in dark ebony, set against deep navy botanical wallpaper with warm amber lamps on either side. An ornate antique writing desk with a gilded mirror sits at the window, and a curated shelf of vintage apothecary vessels lines the wall — thoughtful details that make this feel unlike a typical cabin bedroom. The screened front porch runs the width of the cabin and looks directly into the forest. Vintage wooden armchairs, an antique steamer trunk, and string lights make it a natural spot for morning coffee, evening wine, or simply listening to rain in the trees. The full kitchen features hickory cabinetry, black appliances, and dark countertops — fully stocked with everything you'll need. A dining area seats two. The living room has a Roku TV with guest mode for your streaming accounts. High speed Wi-Fi throughout. Heat and A/C are handled by two mini-split systems. A stacked washer and dryer, iron, and hair dryer are available. We provide 100% cotton sheets, full towels, and all bathroom and kitchen essentials. A drip coffee maker with complimentary coffee, tea, creamers, and sugar is ready and waiting. A fire pit is steps away — firestarters and a lighter provided, firewood available locally.

Other Details to Note

The cabin is accessed via a town-maintained dirt road followed by a short shared private road maintained collectively by neighbors. The roads are easy to navigate in summer and good conditions. In winter (December through March) expect snowpack and occasional icy patches — we strongly recommend AWD or 4WD and snow tires or quality all-season tires. Most guests with appropriate vehicles have no issues. If conditions are severe on arrival day, there is a spot nearby where one car can be left and the cabin reached on foot — roughly a quarter mile uphill walk. Full details are included in your pre-arrival message after booking. During Vermont's mud season (typically late March through early May), dirt roads in Duxbury can become soft and rutted. AWD is again helpful during this period. Parking at the cabin accommodates two cars. Note that in winter, snowpack can make the parking area tight for two vehicles. This is a strictly pet-free property. We maintain this standard to ensure every guest arrives to a clean, hair-free, allergen-free space. We conduct thorough inspections between every stay. Undisclosed pets will result in an additional deep-cleaning fee charged through Airbnb's resolution center and may affect your guest standing. A pack-and-play is available for families with infants — please bring your own crib bedding.

The cabin was a beautiful, tranquil place to spend a couple days during our visit up to Vermont. The interior design was absolutely lovely and felt luxurious and comforting, and there were such lovely little touches throughout that made us feel right at home. Bradley was so responsive and helpful when we reached out and was a great host. We'd absolutely come back to this spot next time we're in the area.

The Alchemist's Cabin was the ultimate getaway! Nestled in the woods, the cabin was cozy, peaceful, stocked with amenities, and thoughtfully decorated. Communication with the host was easy, and directions were clear and thorough. This is a good location for Vermont activities, many of which the host has included in their digital guidebook. We loved spending sunsets on the porch! If we return to this area, we would book again. Thanks!
